Parent Connect is a program hosted at your local school (often in the school library) and run by a staff member and a community partner or school champion. To join Parent Connect, simply complete the form above to find a location near you, or consider starting your own Parent Connect to support and engage parents at your school!

As School Connect builds the program library of resources, Parent Connect may become virtually available as well.

Parent Connect is hosted at local schools, often in the school library on a monthly night of the school’s choosing. The first Parent Connect meeting of the school year includes an overview and a brainstorming session when participating parents choose which topics they would like to discuss throughout the school year. Location needs include A/V equipment, meeting tables, and available parking.
Participants of the Parent Connect program include a school representative, the program host, a topic expert, and attending parents – usually parents from the host school. During Parent Connect meetings, parents listen to an interview between the program host and the topic expert and then discuss the interview questions together.
During Parent Connect meetings, parents listen to an interview between the program host and the topic expert, and then discuss the interview questions together – often over a meal! Topics Experts might include a child psychologist, a first responder, a school principal, a university professor, or a chaplain.

Topics are chosen by parents at the beginning of the school year, but might include:
• Developing Your Family’s 3 Core Values
• Protecting Your Kids as They Use Social Media
• Helping Your Kids Choose Good Friends
• Drug Proofing Your Kids
• Less Yelling, More Talking
• Navigating Stress and Anxiety
• Talking With Teams About Tough Topics

The Program Host manages the meeting agendas, arranges for Topic Experts (either in-person or using the virtual library) and runs both an interview with the Topic Expert, and the discussion questions with parents.

Topics Experts are chosen based on the discussion topics parents choose at the beginning of the school year, and might include a child psychologist, a first responder, a school principal, a university professor, or a chaplain.

Sponsorships might include building the Parent Connect program library – our collection of virtual interviews between a Program Host and Topic Expert on the most requested topics. Other sponsorships could help support the program at a specific school or in a specific district. Complete the form above for more information.

The Parents’ Perspective

“I know that I’m going to leave more encouraged and strengthened than when I came. Everyone is super warm and welcoming. Everyone is going through the same things that you are.”

“Being with other like-minded people. Knowing that we are all in this together. We share our failures. We share our triumphs. You need this. I needed it! Try it!”

A Principal’s View

Why Principal Kristi Hammer of Cactus High School was one of the first schools to host Parent Connect. Principal Hammer wanted an opportunity for parents to come together and learn parenting together. She reminds us that we are here to win the hearts and minds of our kids. Come join a Parent Connect to find out what everyone is talking about!

Celebrate the Champions of Education who have made a significant impact on Arizona's youth!

The School Connect Champions of Education Awards event honors those who lead with heart and help us to build a brighter future for Arizona youth.

Congratulations to Litchfield Elementary School and Principal Sabine Hopper for winning the 2024 Because It Takes A Village Award. Your school leads the way as a shining example of what it means to collaborate for the benefit of the entire community! In the words of Principal Sabine Hopper,

“I could not run this school and do what I do without the beautiful work of the people that I work with. It is about community; it’s not about one person. The volunteers that we get at our school are incredible. The parents are incredible. They are part of our family; so, when they walk in, we know them by name. They come in, they help out...you get chills when you walk out there and see all the people and the love from the community.”

@litchfield_esd thank you for showing us the value of #community!

Congratulations to Samuel Granado, 5th grade student from Pendergast Elementary School District, and recipient of the 2024 Student Champion of the Year Award for grades K-6.

Samuel strives to be a leader for his community just like his ancestors in the Lakota tribe and says we should always advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. Thank you for leading by example, Samuel! We cannot wait to see your Dreamscape Lab and know that you will keep advocating for other students to have the best educational pathway forward!

Congratulations to Taylor Perkins, recipient of the 2024 School Champion of the Year Award. Watch as Taylor shares how gardens can become a welcoming place for every person to build community and help Arizona youth see a glimpse of all the amazing careers that are right at their fingertips.
In Taylor’s words,
“It’s really awesome to see students plant a seed in the ground and watch it grow. They just have this appreciation for life. You get in the dirt; you plant something and it’s like dancing – everyone can do it! And no matter what stage of life you are in? You belong.”
